felidaeng:

this is rori. heโ€™s 4 years old, full of love and terrified of anything or anyone that isnt me. this afternoon i noticed he was acting funny so i took him with me to the vet clinic during my shift. there, we found out he had an urethral blockage.ย

at the moment heโ€™s staying overnight and receiving medication, but the best thing for him would be to get a catheter.ย

i caught it early, so it isnโ€™t severe right now, but my parents refuse to pay the costs of an x-ray and catheter and wont let me use my college money. because of this im asking for funds.

i need to raise about $600 within the next 24 hours.ย

Bayard Rustin was an openly gay Black man who was Martin Luther Kingโ€™s right hand man. He planned the Million Man March and was subject to scrutiny for his sexuality and deemed a โ€œdeviantโ€ and โ€œpervertโ€.

Bayard Rustin can be found in nearly every picture of MLK yet he has undoubtedly been erased from history. We have to fix that.

Well then, letโ€™s bring that name back.

Bayard Rustin, openly gay, human rights activist, proud black man.

(the guy on the left in case you wondered)

Yeah he was literally the guy who was the head of planning the March on Washington.

If you want to learn more about him, thereโ€™s a great documentary on him called Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin

You can watch the full documentary here (until March 31st, 2016)

I did a research project on him, Ella Baker, Claudette Colvin and Stokely Carmichael comparing their contributions to the Civil Rights Movement to the lack of recognition and misrepresentation they received in commonly used high school American History textbooks. All of these people played major roles in the Civil Rights Movementโ€”almost on par with MLKโ€”yet they go largely unnoticed or unfairly pushed aside not only during their time, but even now in classes on American History.

These men and women deserve to be remembered.

Iโ€™m still laughing like poor Dr. Bruce Banner really could not catch a single break for all of Infinity Warโ€ฆ.first he crashes into some weird ass wizard hideoutโ€ฆ.then Hulk decides to be a bitchโ€ฆ..he thought Thor was dead for a whole day, then he thought Tony was deadโ€ฆ.he had to get caught up on 2 years worth of drama in like fifteen minutesโ€ฆRhodey tricked him into embarrassing himself in front of the fucking king of Wakandaโ€ฆ.then a sixteen year old ended his entire life with one polite sentenceโ€ฆ.he face planted on the battle field and was judged so hard we didnโ€™t see him for like another half hourโ€ฆ.not a single one of his degrees could help him with any of these situations so he was probably internally like โ€˜I drove myself into student debt for thisโ€™ half the filmโ€ฆlike reallyโ€ฆ.Bruce and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Dayโ€ฆ.

I feel like we donโ€™t talk about Bucky Barnesโ€™ name enough. I mean, who the heck names their kid after President James Buchanan? Who even cares about President Buchanan? Literally all I know about President Buchanan is that he was 1) unable to prevent the Civil War from happening and 2) almost definitely gay.

โ€ฆwait.

Iโ€™ve only ever seen this post in screenshots. Itโ€™s an honour

Dyscalculia is a learning disability, a lot like dyslexia, but with math and numbers. Everyone knows what dyslexia is, but for some reason, dyscalculia isnโ€™t as well known. I want people to know about this so no more kids are gonna believe uneducated adults who tells them that theyโ€™re just lazy and no more kids are going to think theyโ€™re just hopeless idiots when they try and try but just canโ€™t understand. It happened to me, and I wonโ€™t let it happen to anyone else.

Itโ€™s surprisingly common and is often linked to ADHD. If youโ€™ve ever had issues, look it up – you might find things fall into place for you, too.

  • Difficulty reading analog clocks[14]
  • ย Inability to comprehend financial planning or budgeting, sometimes
even at a basic level; for example, estimating the cost of the items in a
shopping basket or balancing a checkbook.
  • Inconsistent results in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Difficulty with multiplication, subtraction, addition, and division tables, mental arithmetic, etc.
  • Problems with differentiating between left and right.
  • A โ€œwarpedโ€ sense of spatial awareness, or an understanding of
shapes, distance, or volume that seems more like guesswork than actual
    comprehension.
  • Difficulty with time, directions, recalling schedules, sequences of
events. Difficulty keeping track of time. Frequently late or early.
  • Poor memory (retention & retrieval) of math concepts; may be
able to perform math operations one day, but draw a blank the next. May
be able to do book work but then fails tests.
  • Difficulty reading musical notation.
    Difficulty with choreographed dance steps.
  • Having particular difficulty mentally estimating the measurement of
an object or distance (e.g., whether something is 3 or 6 meters (10 or
    20 feet) away).
  • When writing, reading and recalling numbers, mistakes may occur in
the areas such as: number additions, substitutions, transpositions,
    omissions, and reversals.
  • ย Inability to grasp and remember mathematical concepts, rules, formulae, and sequences.
  • ย Inability to concentrate on mentally intensive tasks.

I canโ€™t even comprehend what it might be like being a human who doesnโ€™t have all of these characteristics. I donโ€™t know how a brain can possibly just โ€œrememberโ€ how to do long division or know what ten feet looks like.

I canโ€™t even accept that a car is more than like nine feet long. Ours is fifteen feet long, and even standing next to it, my brain is POSITIVE itโ€™s small enough to fit in a bathroom.

This is the most me thing Iโ€™ve ever read on this site. I canโ€™t read analog clocks I canโ€™t recall number sequences etc.

Have you ever been listening to Rainymood and thought, โ€œYeah, this is good โ€ฆ but it would be nice if I could customize the sound more, or if there was a little more choice.

Let me introduce you to MyNoise.

MyNoise is a customizable sounscape looper with so many options, even within each soundscape. ย So say, for instance, you really love rain sounds when you write or study or relax. ย Anything. ย I know Iโ€™m a big fan of rain sounds. ย They have a page for that.

image

But say you like really high, pattery rain, and LOTS of low thunder. ย Hereโ€™s where MyNoise really stands out: you can customize that. ย See those sliders with all the cute colors? ย That is your equalizer. You canย adjust the levels based on what you want to hear more and less of. ย Hereโ€™s how it looks when you want high, pattery rain and low, rumbly thunder:

image

But say rain isnโ€™t really your jam. ย Say you want something a little more ambient, a little more background noise-y. ย Something with people. ย Well, they have customizable coffee house chatter that even has the levels listed for things like โ€œkitchen,โ€ โ€œbabble,โ€ and โ€œtableโ€:

image

Or say you miss the ocean.

image

Or say you miss your cat.

image

Or say you miss your spaceship.

image

Or say you miss the dungeon where you and your team of scalawag adventurers used to explore and face off against, say, dragons. ย In the dungeon.

image

This site is seriously so helpful, and those are just aย fractionย of every kind of sounscape the site has to offer. ย The best part is that if you want to layer it with music (for instance, Iโ€™ll layer a playlist + rain + coffee shop if the scene Iโ€™m writing takes place in a coffee shop), you can adjust the master volume, meaningย all of your layers stay at theirย respectiveย volumes, just louder or quieter.

Enjoy!

OH MY GOD

Yโ€™ALL I JUST STARTED USING THIS TODAY BUT THIS HAS BROKEN THROUGH MY WRITERโ€™S BLOCK LIKE NOTHING ELSE.

TRY IT.ย  USE IT.ย  LOVE IT.

I have tinnitus ranging from just-there to unbearably-loud (particularly when Iโ€™m trying to sleep) and this site probably saved my life (I have no clue how Iโ€™d cope without it when itโ€™s bad). Itโ€™s brilliant even when my tinnitus is just-there, for setting scenes writing, or for tuning out the noisy building site across from my home, and I canโ€™t recommend it enough. I support the site when I can, because I really owe the guy behind it so much. Try it out, and, if you like it, donate a bit of money if you can; it helps the site stay running!

This is one of my favourite things to listen to when I study!
