It’s been six days and 16 year old Karlie Lain Guse is still missing, with no new information about her disappearance or where she might be at. Last time she was seen, she was walking towards the direction of Highway 6. She has no personal belongings on her, including her phone. People in her life are adamant that this is completely unlike her and that she wouldn’t just walk away like that. I’ve seen tweets from her friends and family and they all fear for her so much. Please, let’s help them spread her face around, it might make a difference!
edit: I can’t believe I forgot to add a link, my apologies, here’s another source to the news about her disappearance: x.
If you don’t love languages, hear me out: my telugu friend had been affectionately calling me, a hindi speaker, “gundi” for 7 months. We didn’t realize until recently that the word has two completely different meanings in Telugu and Hindi, and that we both had completely different interpretations of her affection.
In Telugu, “gundi” means “smol/button/round/cute”.
Hi! I’m a student at SFU, and the SFU Student Society (SFSS) is building a new student space. But as a result, they’re kicking out SFPIRG–the on-campus people’s interest research group–from their space. They are also kicking out SOCA–the collective for Students of Caribbean and African Ancestry.
These are two of the only spaces wherein racialized students can build community and congregate in a safe space. The SFSS has not been transparent about their negotiations and plans with any of the independent student groups (including the above as well as the First Nations Students Association and the community radio station on campus). If SFSS does not offer new spaces for SFPIRG nor SOCA soon, they will be evicted on December 14th.
Would you mind spreading the word that there are petitions going around to request the SFSS offer new spaces for SFPIRG and SOCA?
today I learned that there’s a town in Quebec where a bunch of people grow giant pumpkins, and on one very special day a year, cut them up, empty them, and use them as a canoe. then have a race. a pumpkin race. it’s even called ‘the potirothon’, from potiron (pumpkin) and marathon.
@scifigrl47 Steve is already looking into local AirBNBs and asking Hitomi if DJ has a passport and can he please have permission to take him to Quebec.
