STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND LOOK AT THIS PHOTO!!!!!!!
GUYS! WE DID IT!!!
YA YEEEEET!!
WAIT SO DID WE WIN!!
SERIOUSLY?! THATS AWESOME!!!
This is NOT a win!
This is just the next step in a long fight.
Even if the Senate passes the measure it must go to the House of Representatives. They might choose not to push the measure.
Even if the House then approves it, it has to go to Trump. Trump has already stated he sees Net Neutrality as “dumb” and would veto it. That doesn’t mean he wouldn’t change his mind, but it is more than likely the Republicans (or at the very least Trump) will continue to try and kill Net Neutrality.
This is going to end up being a Campaign Issue. If you want to make sure Net Neutrality remains, you are going to have to vote out Republicans, and vote to keep Democrats in the offices they currently have.
This is not the End. This is a step beyond the end of the beginning… but there is a long and hard fight ahead of us.
Time for a reality check, guys. (I’m all for good news, but lies and misinformation makes us as bad as Pai and Big Telecom.)
Remember back when the co-sponsors reached 30?
That’s what this news is tied to: enough to force a vote.
THAT’S ALL.
We are still lacking Co-sponsor #51, and without that, the CRA will fail.
We need to focus on the midterms instead. Who in your state is running? Who’s on the take with NRA, Big Telecom and Big Corporation?
Same questions with Congress. Get the answers, then vote out all those on the take.
Exactly. Call your senators and representatives, and make it plain as day that Net Neutrality is the issue that dictates how you will vote in November.
Last December, the FCC voted to to kill net neutrality. If we do not take action, this will kill the free and open internet as we know it. The internet needs you—all of you—to make sure your voices are heard NOW.
We need all hands on deck for this one. It may be our last chance. If you’re feeling under-informed and overwhelmed about why net neutrality is so incredibly important, we have this handy guide just for you.
Here’s what you can do to save the internet:
In mid-May, the Senate will vote on a resolution to overrule the FCC using the Congressional Review Act (CRA). We only need one more vote in the Senate to win.Write or call your Senators or Representatives. You can also text BATTLE to 384-387 to get more information on how to write to your reps. You can do this, Tumblr.
Join us and dozens of your other favorite companies like Etsy, Vimeo, Reddit, and GitHub to raise awareness with the Red Alert campaign being run by Battle for the Net. Just add this small widget to your Tumblr to let your followers know how they can contact their reps. It’s as easy as copying and pasting the small line of code right into the customize theme page on the web.
This is important. This matters. It’s up to you to help.
Basically it means the vote is formalized, so now is when pushing back really matters because now the Senate can pass a vote to overturn the FCC decision. So now is the moment to call and raise awareness!
“This is what comes next: First, Senate lawmakers who supported net neutrality rules now have 60 legislative days to find one Republican who’s willing to break ranks with his or her party and support the resolution under the Congressional Review Act, or CRA. They already have 50 votes, including all Democratic senators and one Republican, Sen. Susan Collins of Maine. But they need 51 votes to pass the measure.“ – From the WashPo article above.
You (or your parents) pay approx $40-$100 or higher for internet.
So that you can all use youtube, google, Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, etc. etc. etc. This isn’t limited to social media.
Net neutrality says, “Okay, since you already paid x amount of money for the month, you don’t have to pay for each asset individually. Enjoy your internet.”
NO net neutrality means that your service provider (comcast, at&t, verizon, whatever it may be) gets to say “ACTUALLY, it lines our pockets so give us an extra $5.99 for Youtube, Facebook and Twitter. Oh, but that doesn’t include Tumblr; that comes with our premium package. That’ll be $5.99 on its own as well. Now about your Google docs and email…
That’s why it’s important. That’s why I’m spamming Net Neutrality crap. If you’re using the internet, it’s YOUR problem.
-Email your congressman (text resist to 50409) It’s easy, you don’t have to talk to anyone.
But guess what? There’s something you didn’t know about the vote.
Get this: the vote was basically illegal.
You heard me right. Eric Schneiderman, American lawyer, said in Twitter: “I will sue to stop the FCC’s illegal rollback of #netneutrality. New Yorkers and all Americans deserve a free and open internet.”
Not only do we have another ally, but now we know that the vote wasn’t supposed to happen.
We’ve got this. Now the REAL FIGHT starts now.
In case you are wondering what was illegal! There was evidence of THOUSANDS of fake messages from the public, and the FCC was asked to delay their vote and aid in the investigation. Despite this, they still went forward.

We will not lose open internet tomorrow. Even if the repeal goes through, we will not lose our open internet tomorrow. The process is longer than that. I’m posting this again, because there are a lot of people who are under the impression that if the vote goes through tomorrow that we won’t have access to the sites we love, which can happen, but tomorrow’s vote is the beginning of a long war.
Please take a deep breath and keep calling your reps.
REMINDER THAT GETTING RID OF NET NEUTRALITY WILL HURT:
– SMALL BUSINESSES
How will they be able to advertise things when they’re just starting out, and how many people will be able to see it? How many people will be willing to buy things online if they already have to pay for access to the site?
– SCHOOLS
Any school with computers will have to pay money for internet access. Otherwise students won’t be able to work on any projects in class, and they will have to rely on home internet access. Lots of school funding will be used for paying this!
– PEOPLE SEEKING MEDICAL/FINANCIAL AID ONLINE
It is common on this site and on many others to see people asking for aid. Imagine what will happen to these people if they have to pay to go onto this site, and imagine how many people will see their posts. Imagine how many people will still have the money to help them.
– STUDENTS
Any kind of research paper will be a pain to write, regardless of your grade level. I have to turn in almost all of my homework online, and nothing is allowed to be handwritten. This will make college more expensive, too, and that’s already too much for anyone to pay for without student loans.
– ANYONE LOOKING FOR A JOB ONLINE
Nobody wants to pay an extra $50 dollars a month to sign up for job applications. It is also standard to have an email, so if you no longer have access to it, that can cost you a job, even if you aren’t signing up for it online.
– ARTISTS
Many artists already have trouble getting people to buy commissions. A lack of exposure and a lack of money will not help.
– YOUTUBERS
I don’t really go on youtube anymore, but I know for a fact that this will effect the amount of views (and therefore the amount of money) they’ll get for their videos. This will effect youtubers worldwide, and the U.S. is filled with tons of viewers!
– PEOPLE WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES
Lots of people rely on the internet to vent or to escape. Imagine if they were suddenly told that they aren’t able to do that anymore. Imagine what will happen if they’re suddenly cut off from their friends online.
– LIBRARIES
Libraries would have to put even more funding into internet access, and if they can’t pay for it, it will be a serious inconvenience to many, many people. People who go to the library to use the computers often don’t have a computer at home.
Call the FCC and senators. Write an email. Send a letter. DO SOMETHING.
